Buffalo is the closest. Pretty good history of the bicycle there. Lots
of early period stuff, as that part of NY had over 300 companies making
bicycles back then

Brian

PS a lot of the companies turned to planes and motor cycles.

There is, or was, an exhibit at the Canada Museum of Science & Tech on
bicycles:

http://www.sciencetech.technomuses.ca/english/collection/bikes.cfm. I
don't think it's up right now, but they do offer it as a travelling
exhibit for other museums.

(PS: Should likely not be a surprise to anyone, but Wilbur and Orville
Wright built their first airplanes and gliders while ... operating a
bicycle shop in Dayton, Ohio).

It is going to Calgary for the summer.

Orville learned his mechanical skills by building a printing press and
setting up a newspaper. Wilbur joined him and when the "bike craze" took
off folks saw the boys were good with mechanics and started bringing
them their bikes from there. It kind of "took-off" from there.

I just saw this event posted to the Cycling Cog:

http://cycling-history.org/
"The York University of Toronto invites to the 17th annual International
Cycling History Conference Toronto - Canada (July 6th-7th, 2006)

I bet the people involved in that event would be able to guide you
further...

By the way.... "The Cycling Cog" is an interesting new resource for
cyclists that was just launched a couple of days ago by someone down
here in Toronto. It's intended to do commute/ride matching, route
planning, provide all sorts of information to cyclists, etc. Check it
out here:

The Museum of Science and Technology has a collection of about 100, from
what I understand from Juergen. He's seen the collection.

There is one within cycling distance of Niagara Falls, in New York
state, but that's not in Canada, obviously... I can get details on this
one if necessary.

None others come to mind at the moment...
